When moon?
Here’s the thing — we’re not here to catch the moon. This is a gentle reminder not to use MissionDAO as a financial instrument for capital gains. So we’re chasing the sun instead: the Son of Righteousness rising with healing in his wings.
Who are the missionaries MissionDAO will be working with?
Our list of missionaries will be updated on our discord/website as and when the list gets updated! Most general information about MissionDAO can be found on our website and whitepaper.
What are the criteria we look for when selecting missions organizations/missionaries to back?
1 - Track record of at least 3 years of experience in the field
2 - Demonstrated need for a once-off funding for a specific project with clear objectives
3 - Their requests fall under the definition of ‘integral missions’
4 - A member of the team knows them personally and can vouch for them (applies only to the first batch of missionaries)
We shared these findings together as a core team and decided together if we would go ahead with funding them.
What if MissionDAO doesn't sell out every piece minted?
We can take our time to sell out — there is no rush factor here. We only need a 25% mint to make the DAO fully operational, and to fulfil our initial pledge to our missionaries.
How does MissionDAO intend to conduct its missions in the metaverse?
MissionDAO will exist as long as there are people in need, wherever there is need. All decisions will be made subject to DAO discussions, proposals, and a vote. Some things we could do include:
Creating spaces of safety (like our Discord!)
Educating the community about Web3
Equipping churches, running conferences about stepping into Web3
Evangelising digitally (holding concerts and rallies within the metaverse ecosystem) — this could look like experiencing the bible through virtual reality, even. We will ship VR headsets to our missionaries, and people can witness biblical events unfold right in front of them, for free.
Supporting artists, thereby bringing light into the (pretty dark) NFT world
What happens when the Gospel is banned in the Metaverse?
The metaverse exists in 3 forms: Centralised, Decentralised, and Digital Twins. Simply put, we hope to exist in both centralised and decentralised spaces. Data built on a decentralised platform will always exist on the blockchain, and cannot be deleted or censored by any centralised authority.
Why is MissionDAO using Polygon and not Solana, Ethereum etc.?
Firstly, by using Polygon, we get to use USDC as the native coin for purchase, meaning that we avoid currency volatility. USDC is also easy to access and transfer. Gas fees on Polygon network is also insanely low — a fraction of a cent at times. Polygon is thankfully also integrated with OpenSea, the largest NFT marketplace.
How will MissionDAO ensure that there are no holders with bad intentions?
We’ll be maintaining a high percentage of whitelisters using Know Your Customer (KYC). This means that we’re, as much as we can, ensuring that the “right” people get to buy the NFTs.
What is MissionDAO’s Mint Out sequence?
It’s found in our Whitepaper!
Will MissionDAO be officially registered under an ACRA/ROS/Charity unit?
A DAO is still a relatively new concept, and technically no one really owns a DAO, so it does not exist in a physical location. At some point, we will most likely have a registered charity/company to service the DAO, which will be answerable to governing authorities.
Why can’t I just support a missionary directly?
You most certainly can — and you absolutely should! MissionDAO helps facilitate a few things, though. Not only will large amounts of consolidated money help better fulfill certain pledges to the missionaries, we at MissionDAO have good people who are on-site, making sure that the funds go to what they were promised for. Notably, the funds also go towards building digital missions — in the metaverse and beyond!
How will the funds be allocated?
Funds will be moved to three different wallets. 70% will go to the Mission Giving Fund, which is for both physical and digital missions. 20% will go to MissionDAO Operations, where we pay the MissionDAO team for their work, marketing and making the DAO operational. Lastly, the final 10% will go to the Community Wallet, which supports Christian businesses and artists. The things we buy from them will all go back to you — the MissionDAO holders.
How will MissionDAO ensure transparency in spending?
All our transactions will be traceable on the blockchain. Every expense, every dollar will be fully transparent, and there’ll also be a monthly report made for easy viewing.
How does the MissionDAO define “traditional missions”?
There are many legitimate expressions of what traditional missions can look like today. As such, we hold to a broad definition of what missions look like, acknowledging that believers can be involved in all different types of work that advances the Kingdom of God - organising gospel crusades or evangelism campaigns, translating bibles, providing disaster relief and humanitarian aid, pioneering microfinance initiatives, planting churches, managing missional businesses, hosting creation care expeditions, strengthening local churches through theological education, carrying out ethnographic missional research and the like. They can also take on varying lengths - long-term, short-term, itinerant etc. They may also take on different postures - an outwardly Christian front, or, may be secular-in-position and Christian-in-posture (typically the case insensitive and closed-access nations).
To that end, we have found the concept of “integral missions'' to be most relevant to us. Founded by Billy Graham and John Stott, the Lausanne Movement defines integral missions as:
“…as ‘the task of bringing the whole of life under the lordship of Jesus Christ’ and includes the affirmation that there is no biblical dichotomy between evangelistic and social responsibility in bringing Christ’s peace to the poor and oppressed. This was further clarified at the 2001 meeting of the Micah Network in Oxford as ‘the proclamation and demonstration of the gospel,’ emphasizing that it is not simply the issue of evangelism and social involvement being done alongside each other but rather that ‘our proclamation has social consequences as we call people to love and repentance in all areas of life’ and that ‘our social involvement has evangelistic consequences as we bear witness to the transforming grace of Jesus Christ.’”
Thus, MissionDAO is willing to back anyone engaged in part, or in whole, with integral missions work. This means that their work should either contain evangelistic aims, contain elements of social involvement (eg. providing jobs, improving educational levels etc.), or both.
